The Virtual University of Pakistan is the first and only
first university which provide online education for distant learners. It is not
private university but it is public sector university financially supported by
government of Pakistan. It is located in city of Pakistan Lahore and it has sub
campuses in many cities of Pakistan to provide student with its best
facilities. It was established in 2002 by government to promote modern
information technology and communication as its main motive. The university at
first offered only computer sciences and information technology related courses
but now it is offering many post graduates and undergraduate courses related to
health and physical sciences. Some of its major courses are in field of
business administration, economics, information technology and computer
science. It serve its lectures via internet facilitating its students with ease
of getting lectures where and when needed I think this is the best part played
by Virtual University of Pakistan.
Nowadays some other universities are also emerging like
COMSATS virtual university but the rank of virtual university of Pakistan is at
number 1 position. Virtual university if HEC approved university and degree
earned from virtual university of Pakistan is recognized at international
level. Pakistani living in other countries are also getting benefits from
virtual university of Pakistan.
Virtual university of Pakistan also offer PhD programs to
its students who have completed 18 year of education or MS or M.Phil in
computer science or information technology of software engineering or computer
engineering or equivalent with minimum of 3.0 CGPA out of 4.0 in semester
system or 1st division in annual system of education. Each candidate
is required to qualify VU entry test with minimum of 70% marks. Students also
have to pass interviews and presentations. It also offers PhD in Biotechnology
which is related to medical science and it is very useful for medical students
to seek their PhD degree.
PhD program is of minimum three years it provides successful
route to professional doctorate degree. It is provided to those candidates who
wish to become member of research projects of VU. These courses are designed
and assessed in such a way that it supports both types of people i.e on campus
or distant learners.
Program Objectives
Main motive of PhD program is to provide Pakistani students
an environment where they could complete their Highest education course work
with minimum fee and all the best and better facilities. In this way candidate
can learn in depth the real facts and defects of entire subject. Research
methods and practical works develop candidate’s skills to demonstrate ability
to plan and carry independent academic researches, present and defend research
at various levels, enhance existing knowledge.
For the awarding of CS doctorate degree student is required to
take 18 credit hours of course with min 3 CGPA out of 4.0. Student must has to
pass written and oral exams securing 60% marks with max 2 attempts, student
must publish min 1 first author research paper in Higher Education Commission
recognized journal, student has to defend phd proposal after completing 18
credits of course work, student has to get approval by two foreign experts and
he/she has to get presented one 1st author research page in
international and national conference.
